Our Review

The Philips Azur Steam Iron is a fast heat, easy glide and powerful steam iron. It's available in three colours - Black, Grey and Blue. The black and grey models have a continuous steam output of 50g per minute and a steam boost of 250g per minute, and the blue model has a continuous steam output of 45g per minute and a steam boost of 180g per minute. In each of these cases, the Azur Steam Iron is powerful.

The soleplate is Philips' own "SteamGlide" design. It has a titanium layer and an advanced coating in order to provide better gliding performance over multiple fabrics. It's non-stick, scratch resistant and easy to clean. We particularly like the automatic limescale collection system which extends the iron's life considerably. We also like the drip-stop system which helps keep garments clean whilst they're being ironed.

Specification

We now list the features, and go into a bit more detail:

  • Steam Output/Boost - The steam settings differ slightly between the models, albeit not by much. The continuous steam output ranges from 45g to 50g per minute, and the steam boost ranges between 180g and 250g per minute. The black and grey models are at the top of these ranges, and the blue model is at the bottom.
  • SteamGlide Soleplate - The Azur Steam Iron uses Philips' special soleplate. It consists of an advanced coating together with a layer of titanium. Such a combination gives a smoother glide, as well as makes it non-stick, scratch resistant and very easy to clean.
  • Drip-Stop System - The iron's equipped with a drip-stop system to keep garments spotless.
  • Automatic Limescale Collector - Limescale is automatically broken down and collects into a container. The container can be removed and washed as needed.
  • Automatic Shut Off - The iron will switch itself off if it's left idle. It will turn off after 2 minutes if left on its soleplate, and 8 minutes if it's left resting on its heel.
  • Large Tank - The iron has a large 300ml tank. Such a large tank means fewer refills.
